Marc studied music composition in a music conservatory in Spain. His goal was to become a Film Composer.
In 2019 (age 21) he got accepted into the Screen Scoring program at the University of Southern California. The Screen Scoring program is a 7-month program, Marc got a 1-year student visa.
Before finishing that 7 months program, Marc got his first movie (The Perfect Student). That was his first Hollywood credit (this is important to get a visa)
After finishing the program, international students get a one-year OPT extension. The goal of this one-year extension is for the student to work in the industry and get credits, to then apply for the O1 (Artist) visa.
Marc continued to work. He worked on more movies. This allowed him to pay the bills to stay in Los Angeles, and generate notable credits, to process the VISA.
Unfortunately, the money he was able to save that year wasn’t enough to pay lawyers to process the VISA.
So Marc moved back to Spain.
In Spain (2010-2016) Marc continued to do movies. But he also got offered to teach Film Scoring and Orchestration at Berklee College of Music (online).
In 2016 Marc processed his O1 (Artist) Visa and moved back to Los Angeles. This time with Alicia (his wife).
With 4 suitcases and $12,000 that Marc and Alicia were able to save during the 7 years working as teachers in Spain, they arrived to Los Angeles, which happened to be more expensive than what it used to be back in 2009 when Marc lived there as a student.
While Marc was working on some movies, Alicia couldn’t initially work because she was under the O3 VISA (dependent from O1, they can be in the US, but can’t work), so they were soon struggling financially.
Marc was still teaching at Berklee. To try to make some money, he created an Orchestral Programming course and presented it to Berklee. They loved the concept and wanted to buy the course, but based on their plans, a course like this would fit their structure in about two years' time.
Since they needed the money, Alicia suggested launching the course outside (instead of selling it to Berklee). And so they did.
The course name: Symphonic Virtual Orchestration
12 people enrolled in the course that month.32 two months later
After that course, more came… and that was the beginning of CINEMATIC COMPOSING, an online school for film composers.
In 2020, Cinematic Composing had grown to more than 10,000 students.
In 2022, Cinematic Composing launched MOMENTUM, a 6-month mentoring program designed to launch your career as a composer.
MOMENTUM aspires to be perceived as the most prestigious film scoring program in the world.
MOMENTUM is the result of hundreds of iterations into a formula that delivers results in a short amount of time.
Marc had a chance to attend the most renowned Film Scoring program in the world at USC. In his own words:
“The experience was transformative, it changed me as a persona and as a composer… I came out from there with experience, knowledge, contacts, and even my first paid Hollywood feature film. Obviously, I did my part, but the environment I was put in made all the difference. A group of people (my classmates) that had the same goals and aspirations, the accountability, the mentoring… I could’ve not done the same thing on my own”
Fast forward almost a decade later, years after Marc and Alicia launched Cinematic Composin, and as the school started gaining traction in the niche, their vision became to create a program that would deliver the same level of results that Marc experienced in USC years ago, but for a fraction of the price, and online, no matter your age or where you live.
That became the North Star.
After dozens of courses and programs, iteration after iteration, in 2022 MOMENTUM was born.
This was the result of the first group:
And since then, hundreds of people have gone through MOMENTUM and changed their lives. MOMENTUM gave them the tools, accountability, and support to pursue something as thrilling (and scary) as starting their composing journey.
Some people join MOMENTUM because music is their passion or hobby. Others because they want to work professionally as full-time composers.
Joining MOMENTUM to work with Marc Jovani is by application only. If you want to know more about MOMENTUM you can go to the official MOMENTUM page for more information.
